a driving instructor giving feedback

Looking for a great local driving school in Plano? You’ve got plenty of options. From teen driver’s ed to adult refreshers and DPS-authorized road tests, our area is full of independently run schools with flexible schedules and instructors who actually know our streets (hello, Coit, Preston, US-75, and the DNT). Below are some solid, non-franchise choices within a quick 30-minute drive, plus a few tips pulled from local chatter to help you pick the right fit.

Road to Success Driving School

Locally owned and right in Plano, Road to Success offers teen classes, adult courses, private lessons, and on-site DPS road testing, handy if you want to skip the long DPS waiting game. They highlight small class sizes and certified instructors focused on safety, which is perfect for first-time drivers who learn best in a calmer setting. Scheduling is straightforward, with evening teen sessions and periodic 6-hour adult classes. Their location off Spring Creek makes it easy to reach from most Plano neighborhoods.

West Plano Driving School

If you’re in far west Plano, West Plano Driving School is super convenient, and they conduct DPS-approved license tests in addition to lessons for teens and adults. Instructors are TDLR-approved and offer patient, structured coaching, plus defensive driving if you need a ticket dismissal or insurance discount. Morning, afternoon, and evening options make it simpler to work around school or job schedules. You’ll find them on Old Shepard Place, just north of Parker.

Crossroad Driving School

Crossroad is another Plano-based option offering one-on-one lessons, a 6-hour adult course, teen driver’s ed, and third-party DPS road tests. Students like the flexible scheduling and supportive, confidence-building approach, which is great if you’re a bit nervous about parallel parking or highway merges. Their West 15th Street location is central to much of the city, and they openly list what to bring for your road test to keep surprises to a minimum.

DFW Driving School

Despite the name, DFW Driving School is a local operator with Plano and Frisco locations (not a national franchise). The Plano campus offers teen and adult driving programs, private 1:1 instruction, and DPS road tests on site. If you prefer to knock out coursework online and then focus on behind-the-wheel time locally, they make that mix easy, and their Plano address on West Spring Creek keeps things close to home.

Ideal Driving School

Ideal Driving School is an independently run Plano program known for approachable instructors and seven-day availability for road tests. In addition to teen and adult classes, they offer personalized lessons if you want extra practice on specific skills (think lane changes on 75, or general city driving). It’s a convenient East Park Blvd. location, and they’re DPS-approved for testing.

Learning Hub Driving School

Prefer truly private lessons with structured milestones? Learning Hub emphasizes one-to-one, behind-the-wheel coaching for both adults and teens, plus helps coordinate the third-party DPS road test. If your schedule is tight, they note seven-day operating hours and are located on Independence Parkway, so you’re not trekking across the Metroplex.

Driving School of North Texas (Allen)

Just up the road in Allen (still well within a quick Plano drive), DSNT runs teen courses in traditional, remote, or online formats, along with adult lessons and DPS-authorized road testing at select locations. The Allen site is convenient for anyone near Legacy/121 or heading up US-75, and the multi-format options are great if you need flexibility for sports, work, or after-school activities.

Plano Driving Schools

Plano is spoiled for choice when it comes to independent driving schools. Whether you’re a teen starting fresh or an adult getting road-ready again, you’ll find local instructors, flexible schedules, and DPS testing close to home. The schools above are all public, non-franchise programs within an easy 30-minute drive, so you can focus on learning, not logistics. And once you’re licensed and ready to roll, keep your ride in top shape with a stop by Huffines Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM Plano, your neighborhood team for service, accessories, and next-car daydreaming.
