If you're considering a Jeep Wrangler, you've got a choice between buying the current 2025 Wrangler or waiting for next year's model. The 2026 models haven't been released yet, but MotorTrend has reported some exciting new changes for the 2026 Wrangler and the 2026 Wrangler 4xe that might affect your decision. In this article, we'll discuss and compare the 2026 and 2025 Wrangler to help you decide which model year is right for you.

Performance and Engine Options

The 2026 Wrangler is expected to feature a similar engine lineup to the 2025 Wrangler. Gas-powered options include the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, along with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder making 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The Rubicon 392’s 6.4-liter V-8 produces 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque with a 0-to-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds. Currently, every Wrangler has four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission, although V-6 models come with a standard manual transmission.

To help you get an idea of efficiency, here are the numbers for the 2025 engines. The 4xe's plug-in hybrid powertrain is the most efficient, with a total driving range of 370 miles and 49 MPGe combined. Running solely on the gas engine, the 4xe gets about 20 mpg combined. The 2.0-liter gas-powered engine is rated for 21 mpg combined, and the 3.6-liter gets up to 20 mpg combined. The most powerful 6.4-liter engine has a combined fuel efficiency of 14 mpg.

The 4xe plug-in hybrid may also receive powertrain upgrades for 2026. Current reports suggest this model could have a 31-mile all-electric range, which is 9 miles higher than the 2025 model. The 2026 4xe may reach speeds up to 74 mph when only using the battery.

Off-Road Capabilities

The Wrangler has historically been rated as one of the best off-roaders available. That trend is true for 2025 and is expected to continue in 2026. Next year's Wrangler is reported to have similar off-roading features to those of the current model, including all-terrain tires, electronic locking differentials, electronic sway bar disconnect, rock rails, a trail-tuned suspension, and an advanced four-wheel-drive system.

Classic Exterior Design

The Wrangler keeps its classic boxy silhouette for both model years. You can still choose from two-door or four-door styles, and both styles have removable roofs. There may be other minor exterior changes for 2026, but expect the rugged Wrangler design you know and love.

Interior Tech and Space

The 2026 Wrangler should have similar tech to the 2025 model. Both years feature a 12.3-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and built-in navigation. The 2025 Wrangler's infotainment system currently runs Uconnect 5. Sound options include a standard eight-speaker audio system or an upgraded nine-speaker system.

No matter which model year you choose, the four-door gas-powered models offer the most cargo and passenger space. The 2026 model's specs should be similar to the current model. A 2025 four-door Wrangler has 41.2 inches of front legroom and a maximum cargo volume of 72.4 cubic feet. The 2025 4xe provides 40.8 inches of front legroom and a total of 67.4 cubic feet of cargo space. The 4xe has less interior space due to how the hybrid batteries are placed under the floor.

Safety Features and Advanced Driver Assistance

Similar safety and driver-assistance features are available for the 2025 and 2026 models, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high-beam headlamps, and rear parking sensors. These systems work together without being intrusive, giving you backup while maintaining the hands-on driving experience of a typical Wrangler.

Pricing and Trim Levels

Jeep offers many options for the Wrangler. You can get anything from a basic trail-ready vehicle to a luxury off-roader. While we don't know the exact pricing or trim levels for 2026, they should be similar to the 2025 lineup.
